Men versus Women

When it comes to weight loss, which gender is more apt to cross the finish line, first?

According to a new report released by the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics men outperform women at losing weight.

Recently, a study was conducted to evaluate the weight loss success rates of men and women. More than 90 percent of the male participants loss 5 percent of their body weight within a 12 week period compared to the 53 percent female counterparts. The results demonstrate the men were more prone to lose an average of 23.5 pounds versus women’s 15 pounds.

A myriad of reason attribute to why men may lose weight more successfully than women. The leading reason for faster weight loss in men can be blamed on their higher muscle mass than women. More muscle mass enables men to burn through energy faster.

The other reason women are less apt to lose weight than men are is based on their attitudes and perspectives on dieting. Since, most women experiment with a variety of weight management programs, they are more cynical about achieving results. Moreover, men do not have a history of trying different diets as a result they are more motivated to adhere to the guidelines of the weight management program.

Additionally, researchers have found that men share the misconception that weight management programs are for women, exclusively. The results of the study demonstrate a few of the basics for achieving weight loss. Foremost, the attitude or perspective of the dieter should be positive and committed to following the nutritional instructions of a diet. Secondly, lean muscle mass promotes faster weight loss results. Finally, weight management programs are powerful ways to streamline weight loss objectives.
